JourneyMind is a journal about your child, so almost everything in it is personal. This page says what we hold, who else touches it, and what you can make us do about it — in plain words, and describing the product as it is today rather than as we would like it to be.

The short version

Your notes are private to your account. Nothing is public.
We don’t sell anything, run ads, or track you. There is no analytics of any kind in the app or on this site.
The text of your notes is sent to OpenAI so the weekly reflections and prompts can be generated. Your photos are not.
A voice note is kept as audio and sent to OpenAI to be turned into text. You can edit that text, delete it, or delete the recording.
Everything is kept until you or we delete it. Nothing expires on its own.
Deleting your account does not yet delete your entries. Read that section — it is the one thing on this page that is likely to surprise you.

What we hold

Your account

Your email address and password, handled by our authentication provider; the name you choose to display; a profile photo if you add one; your language; and your time zone.

What you tell us about your child

Their name, date of birth if you give one, the pronoun you use for them, and a photo if you add one.

All of this comes from you. Children do not use JourneyMind, do not have accounts, and nothing is ever collected from a child directly.

What you write

The text of each note, whether you typed or spoke it, the day it is about, whether you starred it, any tags you added, the prompt you were answering if you tapped one, and any photos or audio recordings you attached.

What we work out from it

This is the part people don’t expect, so it is worth being exact about. To build the weekly Insights, each note is read by a language model and reduced to a short structured record: a verbatim quote from what you wrote, plus its reading of

the kind of curiosity in it — naming, how, why, or what-if
the feeling in it, and how strong
whether your child was alone, alongside someone, cooperating, in conflict, or leading
how they settled after a big feeling
whether they gave up, asked for help, or kept going
the kind of thinking and the skill it used
whether the note reads as coloured by the observer — that is, by you

Over weeks that adds up to a picture of a child. We think that is the useful thing about JourneyMind, and also the thing that obliges us to say it in writing. It is a summary of your own attention, not an assessment of your child: it does not score them, does not compare them to anyone, and is not a developmental or medical judgement of any kind. See the terms for the longer version.

What we don’t hold

No location. No contacts. No advertising identifiers. No analytics, anywhere: not in the app, not on this website. As with any web service, our hosts keep ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, for operating and securing the service.

Who else touches it

These are all of them. There is no sixth.

Supabase — the database, the file storage for your photos and voice notes, and sign-in.
OpenAI — three things, all text or audio, never photos: transcribing voice notes, reading your notes to build Insights, and writing the personalised prompts. Under OpenAI’s API terms this content is not used to train their models; they retain it briefly for abuse monitoring and then delete it. Their terms, not ours, are what govern that, and they are at openai.com/policies.
Railway — runs our server and this website.
Cloudflare — answers DNS queries for our domain. It does not carry your data.
Zoho Mail — receives mail you send to us.
Tally — runs the waitlist form on this website. It sees what you type into that form and nothing else.

The album is made entirely on our own server. No part of it involves OpenAI.

Where it is, and for how long

In the United States: the database and photos are stored in Ohio, and the server that reads them runs in California. OpenAI processes in the United States too. JourneyMind is offered in the United States only during testing.

There is no expiry. Nothing deletes itself after a year, or ever. Your journal stays until you delete it, you delete your account, or you ask us to remove it.

Children

JourneyMind is for parents. The account belongs to an adult, the writing is an adult’s, and the app is not directed to children and is not designed for them to use. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child.

What we do hold is a parent’s account of their own child, which is information about a minor and is treated as the most sensitive thing here. It is never public, never shared with other families, never sold, and never used to advertise anything to anyone.

What you can do

Change or delete a single entry

Edit or delete any note from the app. Deleting one removes its photos for good, immediately. The text is marked deleted and disappears from everywhere in the app — your journal, search, Insights, future albums — but is retained in the database in that deleted state rather than erased from it.

What deleting your account removes

Deleting your account does not currently delete your journal, and the message shown inside the app says otherwise. We are sorry about that, and we are fixing it.

What it does today:

your sign-in is deleted, and with it your email and password — you can no longer log in
your display name, profile photo and time zone are cleared
your access to every child on the account is revoked

What it leaves in place:

your children’s names and details
every note and photo, and everything worked out from them

The reason is that a journal can belong to two parents, and one person leaving should not destroy the other’s copy. That reasoning doesn’t hold when there is only one parent on the account, which today is everyone — so the honest position is that this behaviour is wrong and being changed.

Until it is: if you want everything erased, write to hello@journeymind.app from the address on your account and we will delete it by hand. We’ll confirm when it’s done.

Getting your data out

There is no export button yet. Write to hello@journeymind.app from the address on your account and we will send you your entries and photos.

Seeing or correcting what we hold

Most of it is visible in the app, and editable there. For anything else, ask us at hello@journeymind.app and we will tell you what we have.

This website

It sets no cookies of its own and carries no analytics or third-party scripts on any page — there is nothing here watching you read.

The one exception is the waitlist page, which embeds a form belonging to Tally. It is their form running inside a frame on their own domain: what you type goes to them and is passed on to us by email, and what they do with it is governed by their terms rather than ours. That is also why the form sits on its own page and not on the front one — so that the rest of the site stays free of it.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels over encrypted connections and sits behind a sign-in. Photos are served through links that expire within the hour rather than from public URLs, and the key that can read the database directly exists only on our server, never in the app.

No service can promise perfect security, and we won’t. If something happens that affects your data, we will tell you.

Changes to this page

This policy describes a product in private testing, which is changing — including the deletion behaviour above. The date at the top says when it was last true. When something material changes we will say so, not just swap the page.
